Drift (2026)

Single-channel video with sound, 4m 33s

Shot in a single, unbroken take, Drift fades into a distinct triangular island and holds its viewer in a state of suspension. Time passes, clouds change shape as the world shifts at its edges. Set against an original score of chimes and faint radio frequencies that echo the sound of sea waves, the work contemplates the notion of distance, as a space that accumulates not all at once, but incrementally, and often without notice. As the island slowly drifts (or appears to drift) out of view, a duality emerges: the space between is one of separation, but also of tetheredness. In this sense, the work holds a tension between what is fixed and what is in motion; between what is seen clearly and what is always, in some sense, receding and pulling away.
