Engagements
As ‘artists in the community’, we recognise the value of art as a starting point for conversations and encounters with diverse perspectives.
Apart from making art, we actively participate in speaking engagements to share the knowledge we have gained through our interdisciplinary practice and research.
We also work with educational institutions and cultural bodies to facilitate arts-based learning experiences for a range of audience types such as students, educators, practitioners, and the general public. Each session is largely customised and designed based on programme objectives, audience, and resources and budget available. Below are some examples of the work we do and the topics we cover.
If you would like us to participate in your panel, deliver a lecture or develop a workshop for your programme, please get in touch.

The Role of Conversation in Collaborative Artistic Practice
A presentation for the Diverse Pedagogies module of LASALLE’s Master of Arts in Arts Pedagogy and Practice Programme. We shared an overview of our approach to collaborative practice, as well as Sze Yunn’s research on disciplinary-based collaboration.
Creating through Collaboration
A workshop developed for the Museum Education Symposium 2017, organised by the Academy of Singapore Teachers. The session, attended by primary and secondary-level art teachers, provided an overview of the features of collaboration and how they could be applied to different scenarios. Participants were then paired and facilitated through a collage-making exercise, to experience these features first-hand.

Introduction to Art in Public Space
A lecture and workshop developed for Singapore Management University’s Advance Arts & Cultural Management module. The session, aimed at senior undergraduate students from across different disciplines, featured a site visit to the refurbished gate posts of the former National Library and a discussion on the emplacement of such structures in public space and their narrative purpose.
Walking in the City
A workshop on walking as an approach to sensing and mapping the city, co-developed and facilitated with Asst Prof Hoe Su Fern of Singapore Management University. Designed as a break-out session for the Singapore International Foundation conference Without Culture, There is No Future for Cities, the workshop included a typology of walking trails in the city and discussed experimental forms such as the psychogeographic dérive. Participants were also engaged in a mapping exercise, where they were invited to recollect, sketch and describe a walking trail around a favourite neighbourhood.

Mirror Walk
Psychogeographic walking tour of the Bras Basah district, conceptualised as one of the public programmes for ‘An Atlas of Mirrors: Singapore Biennale 2016’. Structured as an experimental ‘moving panel of interlocutors’, the session featured heritage and conservation enthusiast Kelvin Ang, academic Hoe Su Fern and curator Michael Lee exchanging their insights on the artistic, cultural and architectural history of the district. The tour also encouraged participants to share personal narratives along the way.
A Shape to Read: Exploring Language in Contemporary Art
A public lecture and workshop on text-based approaches in modern and contemporary art. Participants were introduced to a brief history of abstraction and the use of language in art, and taken through several writing and image-making exercises. The session was devised for the National Library’s ALT TXT series, which focuses on the intersections between art, design and literature.
